St. Croix #2 - Morgan Patrick
Today I woke up to the chirping of the birds. Then after I was up, we ate breakfast, it was “delicious”. After we had breakfast we got on the hot, sweaty bus and headed to Sandy Point. At Sandy Point we meet a lady named Jen. She was our instructor on cleaning up the beach. We “wacked, chopped and dug up the tan tan and love vine plants.” It was hot but fun.
Then after cleaning the beach for about 2 hours, we went to see the survival tree. This tree was really special because it was knocked over in a hurricane almost thirty years ago but yet still is growing upwards and tall. After we went to eat at Norma’s, which was “amazing.” At around 4:30pm, we rode back to Sandy Point where we saw little leatherback hatchlings emerge from the sand and into the water, and “It was awesome!” Ms. Katherine’s turtle won the race to the water. “Yes!!!” WAY to go SPOT!!! All the hatchlings made it safe into the water!!

St. Croix #2 - Emma Mobley and Morgan Patrick
Today we woke up and sang Happy Birthday to Emma. She was so surprised. Mrs. Anne gave her a turtle hat. After breakfast we got onto the Discovery Grove Bus and took off for the great activities we had planned for the day.
When we got to the ocean we found our tour guide waiting for us with the kayaks. First we went into a lagoon and got to see iguanas that were shaded a pretty shade of green. So, we entered the ocean and saw jellyfish and sea urchins. Then, we saw a shipwreck, which ended out trip.
Now leaving we go eat at Rum Runners. Emma got chicken fingers while I had French toast. We soon left and went to Cane Bay Beach. While swimming, Morgan and I were talking. Then I slipped and fell on Morgan and she steps on a sea urchin and cracks her toenail. I was “so sorry” because I didn’t realize it was there.
Well, when we got back to camp I had to get to camp to pee in a bowl and I had to soak my foot in it. “Yuck!” After the pee, wax, and rinsing it in water, we ate dinner and gave Emma a birthday cake. Then, Emma picked a movie to watch. The Simpsons Movie was hilarious. Walking back to the cabins we soon passed out on our beds.

St. Croix #2 - Devon Mytelka and Izzy Haddad
On Saturday morning, we went to Davis Bay to swim and snorkel. When we were snorkeling we saw a baby shark!! Then we went back to Discovery Grove where we learned about sea turtles. We played a game to learn how many sea turtles actually stay alive. And all the predators and hazards there are for sea turtles. Izzy was the only “sea turtle” to live out of the 12 of us!!
We made sandwiches for lunch and they were delicious!! Then we learned about coral reefs and how to save them. We learned so much! To take a break, we had free time and played ping pong.
At night we went to a pizza place for dinner then to see a local children’s string orchestra play. They we amazing!! When we got back to Discovery Grove, the girl’s found a cockroach (Ms Anne calls them Mahogany Bugs) and did not sleep as usual!

St. Croix #2 - Nina Purkey and Kara Mumejian
On Thursday, St. Croix Group 2 arrived at the airport bright and early. Besides one delay, our flights went pretty smoothly. Anne, Scott and Katherine from Discovery Grove picked us up in Questie, our bus. After orientation, Susan prepared our first dinner at Discovery Grove and we ate spaghetti, garlic bread and salad.
On Friday, we woke up to a sunny hot day on St. Croix. We spent the first half of our day at Whim Plantation, a restored former sugar plantation. Then had lunch at a local Latin restaurant called Amigos and some of us tried conch!
After lunch we took a drive to the local boys and girls club in Christiansted. We played games and colored with the kids. Afterwards, we were so hot that we decided to go to Cane Bay for a swim. We ate dinner at a restaurant called Eat@Cane Bay. It was a long day and everyone but the girls fell right asleep.
